Valentin Stanič (1774-1847) was a Slovenian cathedral canon, national awakener, poet, teacher, and alpinist. In 1840 he established the first school for deaf children from Primorska in the Slovene ethnic territory of Gorica.

The Stanič monument, designated by sculptor Janez Pirnat, stands in Kanal.

Streets in Ljubljana and Kanal are also named after him, and in Koper you can visit the Stanič square. A mountain lodge in the Julian Alps also bears his name.
